Breeding Brine Shrimp

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you all for posting :)
I "kind of" know how to hatch them (YouTube tutorials :)) but because I want to raise them and not feed them to other fish, I was wondering what the best thing to do was, such as what to feed them, what type of water to use (some say tap water is fine, others say it's not :\, I've read posts on the net on how the best food to feed them is Spirulina? if so, is this the best food for them?)

Also, once the Shrimp have hatched, would it be okay to use the stones that came with the fish tank? I don't really want a bare bottom tank but if the shrimp will hurt themselves on the stones, I'd leave them out.

Thanks but no one's really commenting any more :(
Small update, I've managed to hatch my shrimp, for any one interested, here's how I did it; I used normal tap water mixed with rock salt + a pinch or two of bicarbonate of soda, this was for the hatchery, I then used an air pump and a lamp and left it like that for 30 hours.
Once they hatched, I moved them to my raising tank, I used 1 table spoon of salt per litre of water, my tank is only a 10 lt tank, if I manage to grow them to adults, I'll consider buying a bigger tank for my new batch.
So far, there's a lot of them. I can't count how many, but they're all swimming towards the lamp which I've read wasn't good for them due to their young age and limited amount of energy, so I purchased a small 25W heater for them.
I don't really know what I'll feed them, I have some brine shrimp food from my last unsuccessful batch which I can use until I buy some Spirulina or Yeast, I may purchase the Spirulina as I've read it's the best type of food for them.
As I might have stated before, I'm new to all this, the other times I've tried to raise shrimp have failed miserably, so if there is anyone reading this, who might have any suggestions for me, I'd love to hear them :)

Also, I've got some self raising flour at home, I've heard you can feed the shrimp wheat flour but the flour I have includes Mono calcium phosphate and sodium bicarbonate along with the wheat flour.
any one know if the extra ingredients are bad for the shrimp?
Edit; Forgot that Sodium Bicarbonate is baking soda -_-

you could feed them on phytoplankton which you can also culture yourself . what are you raising them for - a food source or just to keep and look at

I'm keeping them just to look at and raise, I don't want to feed them to other fish.
