My bristle nose Pleco eggs just hatched and I was wondering how long I can keep them in the egg Tumblr? Also how soon should I introduce a piece of wood and food. Would a small piece of cucumber be a good source of food?

Once the yoke sack is absorbed they will need to eat.
I prefer to feed zucchini over cucumbers.
Cucumber is mostly water zucchini has more nutritional value.
I also feed green beans, green pepper, carrots, sweet potatoes and pumpkin once they start to grow and need more variety.

If you can’t see the little round ball belly and it just look a bit full or flat it’s time to introduce food.
With a slice of zucchini you just weight it down and they will feed on it.
Replace it with fresh every day.
You will see them take to it when they are hungry enough.

I find it better to boil the courgettes rather than weigh them down. Saves a wet arm digging out whatever you weighted it down with. And my fish have always ignored unboiled courgettes.

Do you blanch the carrots or sweet potatoes or feed raw?

I feed raw. I just rubber band to a small rock.
For deep tank I just tie a piece of fishing line to the rock so I can just pull it out to replace.

This is a single slice of zucchini so you can see how small they were.
I’ve raised a couple hundred this way

I feed zucchini regularly, I would like to add more variety and was wondering about the carrots and sweet potatoes, should I blanch them or feed raw like I do my zucchini

Got a couple of these for xmas a few years back, no wet arms!

Ill add my plecos other then L200's love butternut squash, holds up for almost 48hrs, and doesn't cloud water.

I do not blanch or cook anything I add.
You will read that blanching is some cases helps digestion.
It is my opinion that it’s not necessary, and I have not seen any real scientific proof that this is the case.
I tend to look at things from the fishes point of view. That is to say if the animal were to find something to feed on in the wild it’s not going to be blanched or cooked for them.

I know people will say yes but they are naturally not feeding on sweet potatoes and zucchini.
To that I say if blanching your veggies gives you a warm feeling inside then do it.
I just don’t think it’s necessary.
I’ve raised hundreds of plecos and have never blanched anything.
