Heya, Well in a few weeks, i'm going to be attempting to breed, my longfin bristlenose (male) currently about 11cm, including fins, with my female normal bristlenose at about 9cm.
Been doing alot of research, have made them a big cave, with a very small entrance, male might just be able to get through, and they will be going into a tank on there own.
wondering whether anyone has some advice they could share, ways to induce breeding between them, and any forseeable problems
they are going into a 2.5ft long, 13inch deep, 16 inch high tank.... (odd dimensions, but measured it just before writing this up) and will be alone together.
ornaments consist, of 2 caves, multiple plastic plants, and a large hunk of drift wood. wondering if it would be better or worse to add a live plant aswell.
any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

Sounds like you did your home work. I think you wont have a problem if you just keep what you are doing. GL man

Thanks very much, should see what i go through everytime i look at buying a new fish, about 12-18 hours of research before i go ahead with the research, normally takes me a week or so, and even when i do get it, i still panic that i don't know enough to give it the best :)

Just looking for advice really, i love the look of the longfin, and there rare as hens teeth to find around my area, got some friends that would take amazing care of any babies, and my LFS wants them to so no issues getting rid of the fry.

Maby get 1or 2 femalse you will have better odds of breeding! Gl man!!

haha would do mate, but moneys bit tight, can't really spring for more fish right now as much as it kills me.
hoping they'll breed anyways but haha

You could probably breed a pair in a ten gal...

I keep one male and two to three females. Mine are a little small still so no breeding yet.

Live plants are good cause they help remove waste from the water but unless you do java fern and moss ur gonna end up spending more time and money on the plants than the fish. Also bushys might eat em

Good luck to ya.

Just to put my 2 cents in. I have sucessfully bred bristlenose in a 20gal longs. I did a 2.4 male to female ratio per tank (at least to females and males), had two clay caves, nice chunk of drift wood and a couple more hides. Keep them fed good. I find more than one male helps to make it more realistic. Didnt run lights on it except to clean. Keep it basic. Regular room light is enough for them. Just know what worked for me, hope this helps.

not sure on minimum size :), breeding them in a tank bigger then they really need but lols, just waiting for it to be freed up, currently growing out some fish in it :)

Yeah, i've been contemplating planting something in it, problem is, best light i've got for it is either a desk lamp, or open window.
so not to sure whether i could plant it or not with the lights :) i got plenty of plants, and i can always offcut a few different species from my planted set up so no worrys there.
