I was just wondering who breeds bn and what they use as caves. I know theres slate and clay caves but has anyone had success with pvc pipe?

Yeah it would work, when I was working on a fish farm in Florida we breed albino Ancistrus using 1 1/2 pvc cut to about 6" to 8" long. We had them pressed against the glass in a corner and held there with a brick. Usually that would be the only thing in the tank and the males would occupy it. If the pair was ready they would spawn with in the next few days. We usually left them in the breeding tank for two weeks and then rotated them out with another breeding pair. Hopefully that helped a bit.

yes all the time
you need to plug or cap one of the sides on the pipe lake a cave

The best part about pvc is the price. Cheap cheap cheap...I also made some out of slate. I think I made 6 of them, and all things included they were around $20 total.

Why not?

Here slate tiles run at most $13-14.50 retail for a box of 10-12 pcs 12"x12" silicone $5 retail for a tube. If you have the right tools making slates caves is dirt cheap.

If you can buy for contractor prices like I can it's really really cheap.

Paying $10 for each slate cave is a lot of money. It's like $3 worth of material and takes 15 minutes to make.

I found 3"x8" and 3"x6" pieces of slate tile for dirt cheap at lowes. The guy said people mainly use them to fill in odd areas like under the toilet or behind tubs. I think each box of 4 was like $2. I had a caulk gun already. And then the silicone was $4 or $5. It was my first fish inspired D.I.Y. project. If I can do it anyone can.

i am not knocking elctricblueseanburch
i am just saying that is cheap too and it is more bag for your buck to make them
like it sarcastically says in my post
