breeding cichlids through a divider.

Hello fellow fish heads. Im sure some one on here has done it or atleast tried it i personaully have never seen a thread on the subject thow. Simply put has any one tried to bread large breed cichlids through a divider of some kind. If so what did you use and so on. Is just some thing i have been toying with the idea about sence they are super aggressive towards each other during breeding with injury of the fish happening possibly even death at worst. What i mean by large breed cichlids is any thing the size of the amph family or bigger. Just thought it would make a different discussion. And for some reason some one allways seems to bag on my spelling and such. So i am getting it out of the way now. Im a chef not a english major. Thanks as allways for your time guys.

I have read somewhere that people who try to breed some Flowerhorns have used tank dividers like light diffusers from Home Depot.T
 
They put the slate or whatever they want the female to lay her eggs on up against the divider.Then they put a powerhead in the male end of the tank.Then when the female lays her eggs and the male does his thing the current from the powerhead helps put his you know what on the eggs.This is what I have read on some other forums,dont know anyone who actually did this.I guess Flowerhorns can be real nasty towards their mates.I myself am breeding Angelfish at this time.I have my own issues.Stupid parents keep eating their eggs.Although I have managed to save some fry from the pair in my avatar.
 
I've seen people who use the light dividers cut holes in them big enough for the less dominant fish to get through if need be (to allow normally the female to get away so as not to be killed but she can go back when the male calms down), but keep the more dominant fish back, however this would only work if there is a significant difference in the size of the two fish mating.
 
thanks for the replys guys much appreciated. So to touch base on what you guys are saying puting a peice of slate up to the divider with a power head to direct the sperm to the eggs sounds kinda funky for sure. Is on the right brain track thow for sure. and just to keep the thread on the right track i do mean with both fish seperated completly with the female not being able to go to the other side of the tank. Not with a divider that only the female can fit through

i have never heard of breeding cichlids using dividers
 
Another method is putting two males in the tank one on each side of the divider and a hole for the female to get back and forth.
