I've been interested in breeding some cichlids. I've heard that convicts would be the best for beginners such as myself. I've bred bettas and livebearers, so I figured that this would be a fun and new experience. I was wondering what would I need; tank size, filtration, decor, etc. And of course, the care for the fry. I found a breeding pair at Petsmart so hopefully, I can get all this set up before some else snatches them up :D

If you would like a good cichlid , in terms of beauty and ease of spawning, I would suggest a pair of kribensis, a 29 gallon is big enuff, provide a cave and a few dither fish, and they should spawn every 5- 6 weeks,,,,,,,nice fish and fun to observe !!,,,,,,,just my 3 cents ;)

kribs are a good choice and easier to find a place for than convicts or some apistogramma would be fun

Convicts get fairly large, but breed easy....very easy. A 29 would last them a while

Convicts are much easier to find than Kribs around where I live so I was thinking of Convicts. I would do Jags, but space is limited. How big to Kribs get and how much different are they from Convicts?

I wouldn't recomend cons for first time breeders. Just for the simple fact that you will have more fish then you know what to do with.

I would probably use most of them as feeders
