breeding clown knife fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have never heard of it happening. But I dug this up on a internet search.

Captive breeding is possible but this probably won’t happen unless the fish are kept in a very large tank. In this case, that means 500 gallons or more. The pair will usually lay their eggs on floating plants and the male will aggressively guard them until they hatch in 6 or 7 days. The fry should be moved into a rearing tank and fed baby brine shrimp until they are large enough to take other foods.

From what I remember reading in an old book, they have been bred in captivity before. Usually in a pond setting. Soft acidic water and some flat rocks and driftwood for them to lay their eggs on. It's mainly space issues with them.

your looking at a longgg time before they breed. pairs will form. but usually factors like lighting. most case tank size will stop them from ferting.

might wanna look into building a pond. or usue pond liner. and make something at least 10by10. lots of caves. rocks. plants.

this is a 4 year project easy ... cks pushing 2 feet??

all right, now i can breed my clown knife, got a 560 tank and a pair of knifes

Believe it or not, I think they're probably going to need bigger, but I guess it's also depends on the dimensions. The only captive breeding that I've heard of was in a pond setting.

How does one tell the difference between the sexes?
