I always seem to hear and read differently to how them breed.

I have coral sand
ocean rock (semi piled)
temp about 27 celcius
ammonia 0
nitrates 0
nitrites 0
PH 8.0
GH 101
KH 110

So, people who have successfully breed malawis before, does this all sound like ok and maybe i could have breeding one day?

Yeah i'd be curious too, but say i met all his conditions & had a 55gal with different types of cichlids but i was only trying to breed the convicts. Are these conditions good?

i have a 180 litre aquarium.

about 15-21 fish including catfish.

Im not sure of all the cichlid breeds but i will try and either get pics or names.

yellow lab x 3
Labidochromis zebroides ? (yellow and black stripe) x 2
tropheous firefox x 2
calvus x 2 (both male :( )
Melanochromis auratus x 3
~~~~look at link, i have one dark and two light like this http://www.aquaristikszene.ch/Boersen/Maiboerse/Angebot_Master/Melanochromis_auratus.jpg
and two like the above but blue.
sorry for the awful species list lol.
any better help?
with a setup like this, you would not want to encourage breeding. It will result in mixed fry. Not saying you can not keep any fry, but with the mix you have given you can and will most likely get hybrids. If you want breeding you need species only or very different species.
ah right yeh, ok makes sense, so if they breed they breed if not im not worried, was just wondering really.
i have two fish that appear to be "courting" and doing what i call the sand dance lol.
maybe they are attempting to breed, im not sure
yeh true. i just let them play and do as they please lol let nature take it cause
