breeding convicts in a 20gal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my daughter just bred them in her 5g. mommy's little fish keeper :)

I've done it in a 20g (L)

Just make sure there's plenty of hiding spots incase the male turnes aggressive toward the female.

They will breed in a 20L,but I personally do not think it is big enough to keep them for life.I had a breeding pair in a 20L for almost a year, and when they started to get big, they stopped breeding, and I gave them away.Males will get up to six inches, and in a 30 inch tank with a 4 or 5 inch female,it is kind of cramped.

How long was your ride from the fish store with them? Im surprised they didnt spawn in the bag on the way home lol.

In my early days I spawned a pair in a 10 gallon for about a year that was full of java moss. That seemed to provide enough protection for fry and female for about a year and then he took her out out. Even though I did it in a 10 gallon I would suggest 20L or 30 Gallon. Once they had fry that 10 gallon got really small. They spawned in a half flower pot turned on it side.
