try fancy guppies those are also real easy

And what am I to expect as a return from those, $0.01 - wouldn't guppies be worse, or are stores willing to take them.

I'm not looking to make a lot of money, just looking to have some sort of "support" for funding my fish/tank(s).

You could try something that is more rare then convicts, but still breeds quite easily. Now I had some Archocentrus Centrarchus and those were breeding a lot as well. They are not as easy as convicts, but I think no other cichlid is hehe.
Don't know how easy the rest of the Archocentrus or Cryptoheros genus breeds, but I could imagine that you could sell Hondurian Red Points for example, for more money then convicts.

that varies cause when i did it he gave me fish food in return. make sure you work something out with the lfs so you can get in store credit. i didnt complain tho the food was aquadine an it was like $20.

You could try Rams but be careful, you need to get them from a good breeder. You could do two pair in a 30. Convects reproduce faster than bacteria, no money in them.

Even at $0.50, if I have done my research right, I can expect 30-50 babies?

Thats $25 in optimal conditions (50 babies, at 50 cents, on the higher end of what I'd hope for).

With those numbers, it'd take me 10 sets of babies to save $250 (enough to add another tank for the same purposes) or 20 weeks.

Thats about 5 months, considering I pay for the food and such out of my pocket and not from the store credit.

Now, considering the conditions I set are way to perfect, lets double it up and say 10 months, even at that, not bad for my fish keeping supporting itself.

Is 10 months ($250) a reasonable goal to set with these?

You will end up feeding each spawn to your predators(monsters).......Average spawn, 40-75........99% of fish stores will trade 30-50 1 month old fry for a bag of Hikari pellet food.........I used to work at a fish store.......You get about one person everday trying to trade in a spawn of convicts;).......So you ask is 10 months a reasonable goal, what kind of fish do you have??????One healthy convict pair will save you a trip to store every month, not a whole lot of money.........O yeah, the MAJOR plus breeding your feeders is the disease factor, almost NONe because you breed your own feeders........

For livebearers you can try endlers. They are like guppies, but more in demand and worth more. If you like inverts try some dwarf crayfish. They are fairly in demand too and make an ok chunk of money. A 30 gallon is great for either of these options. As far as cichlids, the only ones I can think of were mentioned, you can try rams/apistos. But they can be hard to breed and keep alive. I think rams like softer and more acidic water, and are sensitive. I could be wrong though. Also a salvini cichlid pair might work in a 30 gallon, but I don't know if you can make decent money on them.

im my opinion you'r going to struggled to breed any cichlids worth a bit of money in a 30 gal and in such a small space any other tank mates are likely to get shredded cichlids tend to be VERY protective over their fry
