Breeding Convicts - Should this work?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i had a pair in a 20 long breeding and living well tryed moving them to a 10 gallon and then the male wolud not let the female be. i ended up moving the female to a new tank when she was almost beat to death

hey landon good to see you here as wel. honestly as stated above 2 pairs will probably fight more than spawn in a 10. also one thing to consider is you will have between 30-? babies in therel. I keep my cons in a 20 long and move the babies to a 15 long grow out tank. also I know convicts are small when you buy them but they can reach a size of 5" or so and a 10 gallon will be to small at that time. good luck though your on the right track.

Moved to 55g with others, its a predator community with oscars, pacus and more (small of course) and I doubt the fry will have any chance at all of surviving. Though there is a pile of large rocks at one side of the aquariuma and one pair has been digging for a couple of days now and guard the area from the other fish, the female sits in the spot all day long and only comes out to feed, im sure they will breed in here. But the fry....

Yeah, when I started out I got two pair to make sure I had a breeding pair. Not necessary I find out with cons. The one pair just about killed the others before I could get them out. One would hide in a small space between the tank wall and some rocks and the other would hide up top behind the filter. They would come out for almost nothing.

its really too small for even just one pair, but with proper filtration 1 pair should do "ok".. but definately not 2

LOL
if u wanna breed convicts heres what ya do
get a bucket with water in it... put a filter and a heater on it... that is acthually optional..lol
convicts will breed in yer toilet if ya dont flush it... lol

not saying to do what i said... but u get the idea... there easy as **** to breed... YOU dont have to do anyting... just add water
