I've noticed a lot of people saying that they've had success breeding their convicts after adding a terracotta pot. Just wondering how most people position their pots. For example, on it's side, upside down with a hole punched out, etc...

I just bought this convict and I'm almost sure it's a male but I just want to be sure. He(possibly her) chases my other female off if she gets too close (they're both still very young and probably not old enough to breed yet) and has very small almost unnoticeable spots of orange.IMAG0169.jpg Sorry not the best picture but the best I could get.

yea convicts they will breed on straight glass or wetever you have these guys had 2 sets of eggs at once in a clear glass bowl and and a rock. so they will breed no matter what way the pot is

I had about 60 convicts. I started out with M/F and they spawned. Then got moved out of the africn tank into their own 40. Where the babies grew up. The orignal parents got killed, and the babies startes spawning like crazy. They then got moved after a few years to a 20 gal for the oscar to inhabit the 40 gal. I put 2 in with the oscar, m/f and within days, they had spawned behind a rock. And started tag teaming the oscar. I couldnt figure out why. In 2 weeks they had spawned 5 times. It got to the point that they were just in there to create a natural food supply for the oscar almost every weekend.

I'm fairly new to Black Convicts, so I'm not familiar with their behavior. Is it normal for the male to chase the female around the tank?
