I've used Bloodfin's in the past and it worked wonders, upgrading to a larger tank might help a little too.

Don't to bust your bubble but don't be surprised if one morning you wake up and see just your male con alive. I had a pair with some catfish and four females he went bezerk and I woke up to just him.

I would add a ton of hiding places for the female and tall fake plants to break the line of sight

Making the distinction between dither fish and target fish is asinine to the max, as dither fish are target fish by nature.

Well as of now I moved my male in another tank. Hopefully when I reintroduce my male back in the 20G they will not remember eachother and breed.

Giant danios are good. So are platties. No long fins though.
