I have been thinking about breeding crayfish as a "treat" food source for my C. Frenata. I was considering Louisiana Reds. First question is Where can I actually buy Live Louisiana Reds? Would a 30 long be big enough? How many should I get to start breeding? If Louisiana Reds will not work in a 30 please suggest a species that you think will work better. Thanks in advance for any help.

Go for marmokrebs if you can; there are only females of the species and they reproduce via many many tiny clones. Far easier than breeding other crays. I'd get at least two adults, a 20 gallon tank should be fine, with lots of hiding places, PVC pipe, etc, and feed well. They should not go after the small crays if they are all well fed.

I would say get a couple females and see if the male breeds wit all them. And then u got like 2-4 females layin eggs wit 1 male helping all.
