breeding Crenicichla lenticulata

Hopefully, you will get a pair. Really, until they are 9 to 10", you can't be positively sure you have pair. Up to that size, most Lugubris pikes will tolerate others of their kind and hang out with each other, giving the impression they are a pair. Thats why normally Crenicichlaholics buy 3 or more pikes at a time, to increase the chances of getting a pair.

You've got your work cut out for you, but with some time, determination, and a heck'of'a lotta luck, you might just pull it off. Big tanks, possibly live foods, low pH, soft water, and pristine conditions are probably a lot of the factors to induce spawning.

Crenicichla sp. 'xingu I' has been spawned and got viable fry, as well as Crenicichla johanna. Crenicichla marmorata has been spawned, but none of the fry hatched i don't think. All are Lugubris pikes, so its very very possible!

Wayne Leibel had a second batch of eggs by the Marmorata 1 month after the first that did hatch. But it is the only spawning that I am aware of.
