The roaches people breed for herps are tropical species that can't survive for very long out side of their heated enclosure. They're not the same species that invade homes. If they were to get loose, they'd dry up an die. They're still your best bet so far.
I can't think of any fast breeding reptile or amphibians that would work as food.
