ive got baby cichla that im going to start giving some feeder guppies. I want to start breeding my own feeders cause its a pain in the anus to get feeders every few days.

i was thinking convicts, since they raise their young so there is a good survival rate. Others have told me guppies, platies, and mollies.

which ones do you think will give me the most fry?

can i house more than one pair of convicts in a 20 gal?

Guppies, plat ties, and mollies are all easy, however small. Convicts are easy, I'd only do a pair, but the pita with them, is they are quick and smart and usually you will end up with some survivors in your bass tank.

dont convicts also produce more since theyre not live bearers like the mollies, and guppies?

convict can have up to 300 fry and yes a pair only needs 10 gallons to mate, just separate the tank to stop aggression.

alright cool, ill separate my 30 gal in to 3 sections. Do i need to keep a group of cons first and wait for them to form pairs?, or can i just throw in any random male and female together and hope that theyl pair up and breed?

Get one pair of Convict Cichlid....The pair will breed within two weeks........The fry are a good size to feed to the fish within 4 weeks........Power feed the fry with lots and lots of baby brine shrimp............

I tried feeder convicts before, but you will need space to grow up 100+ cichlids to a respectable size to feed. Also, if you don't feed live foods you will have to do plenty of regular water changes or else you will have a ton of rotting food in the tank.

IMO the easiest way to go is using a 15-20g rubbermaid tub and stocking it with feeders. Every two weeks or so.

sorry i forgot to mention, im feeding to 1" baby cichla. so the fry wont need to be raised big. Im only using feeders right now because it will fatten them up and get them growing fast when theyre most delicate due to their small size.

think long term do you want fish that spawn like crazy but take forever to grow or do you want less fish that grow quicker.... go with molies or platies and throw the fry into a 30g or bigger grow out and they will grow like on roids
