I have an extra 20 gal tank fully equiped and was wondering if i could breed feeders for my oscar.

I know goldfish arnt the best for them, but i was wondering about gost shrimp? or anything that would breed and wouldent have to worry about feeding to my oscar

in a 20 gallon you could breed convicts. they are very easy to breed and are of appropiate size for oscars to consume.

I've always used convicts for my pikes ... at least one person uses brichardi as well.

Ghost shrimp are hard to breed...require salt water at the pupae/larvae stage and need to be turned over to fresh water as they progress, is my understanding.

You can give it a shot but you may find it's not worth the trouble. Diet-wise feeders aren't the greatest nutrition anyway, even if captive bred. My Oscars love ghost shrimp, too, but they're so tiny and hard to breed that's not worth it either. What about earthworms? I wonder what's involved in raising those......? That'd be kind of cool to have an earthworm tank lol

Id feel kinda wrong feeding convicts to my oscar (since he shares a tank with one :( ) How bad and how hard are the guppies to bread for the big guys... and what about rosies? Always buy them at the shop for feedings.

Earthworms are really easy, and double as a compost pile(just dont over load it). if i remember correctly you can get a large plastic ben poke holes in the top, do 50 50 dirt to shreded newspaper inside of it. keep a water bottle to spritz it alittle each day. other than that you can put leftover veggie materials from dinner, or the egg shells from breakfast in there.

start out with a couple boxes of worms( i dont know if nightcrawlers would work).

ima notta pro tho and havent done it a in a long time but im sure a google seach will get ya heading in the right direction

i even saw a mini kit for it in the walmart fishing section the other week

i would do this but im in college witha couple of roomates, space is a little limited
