get female guppies that had contacted some males before.
they carry the sperms of male inside their body and lays frys (not eggs) every month.
in 55 gallons, they will survive since the big area give them chances to survive from their mom. i hope that helps.

Guppies, mollies, or any standard livebearer should do the trick, I think. Not that it makes a difference, but livebearers (Gambusia) are a major part of the diet of young gar in the wild.

ive never done it but i thought convicts were to stubern for feeders
