Breeding feeders.

Not sure what you're trying to breed but it's really hard to breed and grow enough fish (especially in a single tank) to keep up with feeding.

I culture red wiggler worms (search and there are plenty of threads). I started with a pound of worms and have enough to feed a 50+ tank fishroom a couple of days a week...

Red wigglers are nutritious, high in protein and accepted by every fish I've ever fed them to.

maybe if you have a garden, or a bin compost, you can do DIY enclosure for this, basically it's just earthworms... and YES, they breed infinitely. I have a source of infinite worms in a nearby farm, I don't have to breed them, I just collect them actually.

We'll that project got rerouted quickly by my lovely wife. I tried to tell her softly that I had acquired another tank and that everything was free. No go. Lol. Too many tanks in the basement. So it's now set up in my sons room on his dresser. 5 black neon tetras. 4 black mollies. 2 bala sharks and 2 silver dollars. I know the bala and dollars are not good for this setup but they're really small and will be moved to a big tank after growing past bite sized. I already have a school of 8 large sd. These will round me out to ten. My son loves balas so I'll make them work somehow. Anyway is there anyway I could still throw something in there to get a few babies. I don't plan on feeding feeders everyday. Just maybe twice a month for treats. I stick w quality pellets and flakes mostly. Any suggestions would be welcome. Just don't wanna take the monthly risk anymore on pet store feeders.

I filled a 20 gallon with about a dozen mollys it worked out well but it takes a significant amount of time before there are enough fry who will grow to feeder size (pending on what your feeding)

Just google "red wiggler culture"... but in a nutshell, a couple of rubbermaids, some shredded newspaper and veggie/fruit waste from your kitchen.

I keep mine in the (attached) garage with no complaints from my wife, who absolutely complain if there were any issues with smell, etc.

Its kinda tough to get ahold of confirmed male and female adult cons w/o growing them out so i would go with Mollys, Platys, Guppys or any Livebearer if your a beginner.

how is this hard? you nab them at 4-5 inches. one with color on it's belly, one without...put them in water and watch nature take it's course. what's difficult about it?

ps, i've now done 2 batches of cons in a unheated 5 gallon. someone once told me you could breed them in a puddle of spit. i'm starting to believe her

I'm sorry I haven't kept you guys updated. My wife was upset that ANOTHER tank was coming into the house. So as a compromise it went into my sons bedroom. Has a few black neons, Molly's, some grow outs, and a calico convict. I'm waiting for the con to grow a little bit. I'm gonna sneak a male con in eventually and let them take over the tank. I'll have my breeders one way or another.
