What type did you get
it should have a connector for an air line either at the top or inside the tube.
 
Just run an air line through the tube and hook it to the nipple at the top of the sponge.
 
I took and put my flowerhorn x BP fry in my regular 10 gallon, and took out my growout flowerhorn and just took some panty hoes, and cut them and rubberbanded them over my filter intakes, havent lost a fry to getting sucked up. And soon they will be big enough for me to remove the hoes...
