alot more money in saltwater but...
look at whats not available in your area... for me it's red cherry shrimp, no where has them, and i can get 4$store credit, because of the demand, granted it's not cash, but i'm breeding them for more fish/food/tanks :)

haha u lucky guy, isnt everything fish related way more expensive in australia?

There's a few local people that do very well breeding your average day fish. Things like platies, swordtails, corydoras, bristlenose plecos, rainbowfish, and barbs. They're prolific, fairly easy to breed and raise, and the pet stores take lots of them.

Albino bristlenose here was like a gold mine for a few years. People who had breeding pairs were paying for their entire fishroom upkeep with just one pair.

There's very little money in cichlids unless you breed oscars or some of the more rare fish and know a supplier/distributor personally.

I make my living hatching and growing out paddlefish, 60,000 this year alone.

Most I stock for caviar but I sell enough dinks to aquaria trade to pay the feed bill.

Look for a fish that has more than 1 use. Many Universities have aquaculture departments. Ask them.
