hey i am in the process of buying some wild caught frontosa cichlids to breed. does anyone have any tips or tricks as in tank size, tank set-up filtration decorations that the fronts like? i was planning on putting them in a 240 gallon aquarium. thanks!

Depends on what you're getting. The blue zaires are terrible holders of eggs they either fake holding eggs or just spit them out and eat them. Mpimbwes and all the others are fairly easy to breed. My favorite are Mpimbwe Blues great holders very active and friendly. But basically when I see their breeding tubes down i do a 40% eater change at night because they are most active at dusk. With a 240g you will be more successful than me. Just have open and caves here and their facing in different directions. Have more Females than males but try to get atleast 2 males incase the alpha is a crummy breeder.

My wilds hated high water temp, I had a large group 15 in total ranging from 7" to 13" in size, split the group into two 180g tanks. I found that with only one male in a group breeding was slow, as soon as I added two males there was no stopping them. Alot of people say about giving them plenty of space but I found that my best results from the group was when I kept 10 females and 2 males in and 180 sounds strange but I ran masses of filtration and feeding twice a day so the females are nice and fat. Also I would let them carry the eggs for 2 days then strip her and place eggs in a tumbler.

when do you remove the eggs from the tumbler exactly?

Normally take them out when the yolk is gone but I suggest to feed them solid food uf there is only a tiny bit of the sac left. For your filtration are you using a fluval fx5? Should be good but nothing bears water changes and overfiltration.
