breeding ghost shrimp

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A friend and I bred a bunch in a backyard rice paddy one summer in Hayward, Ca. We just tossed in a bunch and when we drained it in the fall there were more Also dojos, geisha girls, and zebra danios.

Im not 100% sure, but as someone said you can see the female's eggs.
and use something like java moss.

Also, a sand substrate helps because they burrow.

Just buy a few hundred and they'll be sure to breed. :)

i have a 40 gallon planted tank for my feeders to breed as in guppys and gost shrimp u just have to have slightly acidic water and well planted and have enough food in there for them or the may canablize

i had a barrel, put some java moss or other grassy plant. threw in the shrimp and they started multiplying.

temp was about 80

since shrimp are scavengers you can throw in market shrimp or choped fish. Also can use zooplankton or algae which is great if you spawn in an already established tank.

Havent been able to get back into it since the storm and no one has been able to catch a decent amount either.

i work over at petland in baton rouge, la and we get in PLENTY ghost shrimp in once a week. i'm sure if you were interested, we could order an entire bag. is that what you're looking for?

Danepatrick, what price for how many, there are several people looking for large ammounts.

I'll drive up for some, how much and many in a bag?
where do they come from?

well we charge $1.09/dozen. i don't know exactly how many come in a bag. probably around the 500 number.

by doing our normal "mark up", they would costs about $85.99/bag. now, we can most likely do a lot better than that, but i will have to defenately check with my boss and see.

i'll let you guys know tomorrow. i appreciate the interest. ;)

alright, i checked today, and we can defenately sell them by the boxes. i asked my boss how many too, and he said he thinks it's 1,000 count. the amount is so deceiving. (s/p?) it will most likely be in the $50-70 dollar range. thats a hell of a discount considering they are $1.09/dozen. let me know what you guys think.

Damn thats really cheap! Even at $1.09 a dozen. They charge $0.30 a piece where I live!!!! I was actually thinking about trying to breed these little guys too. They do a great job cleaning up my piranha tank and it takes the p's awhile to knock them off.
