there just zebra danios.

dont know if its illegal i have no idea how they would enforce that as you signed no contract upon purchasing. i dont think you can patent a animal.

brings up the question about mansato and corn if buy corn from the grocery store and use the kernels to plants. can i keep my seeds from every harvest and replant since i didnt buy the seed from mansato?

The name is patented... not the animal...

If I heard it right... one breeder patented "glo-fish" and another patented "glow-fish"…

So it is legal to breed them… it is legal to sell them… it is legal to call them glo-fish or glow-fish… but it is not legal to sell them labeled glo-fish or glow-fish...

Some are known to be infertile due to use of hormones... but not all are...

yeah im probally just going to stick with my guppies for feeders they are much cheaper than a glo-fish and not illegal in almost every countire but i might give it a try before they become illegal in florida.

i thought you were breeding them? so after the initial investmest cost doesnt matter.

and only nut jobs ban them in the US. considering most of the country already eats gm food, banning a non-food fish because its gm is just retarded:screwy:

woah lol funny thing. I was at walmart today and while my nan was picking up her glasses i was checking out the fish (as i always do lol. and playing with the oscars making them chase my finger) I saw these 2 little fish that looked like rosie reds almost, but somewhat clear with a red glow going down the side and they were labled as glo - fish!

California is the only state in the US that has banned them... and that was because they have banned all Genetically Modified animals. They made some exception for Glo Fish but requre the breeder/importer to do expensive testing to veryify they are safe. The breeder has thus far shown no interest in financing such testing...

I highly doubt they will be widely banned in the US anytime soon...

But they are banned in Europe :raspberry
(Sorry, I had to)

they have a different stance on gm food so its understandable, they think the worlds gonna implode if they take one bite lol.

i do agree more testing would be nice but i dont expect any truly different results from gm and regular food. we have been hybridizing plants for centuries, the only difference is now we have more control.
