does anybody here know how to breed green sunfish?any experiance? and do you have to sue a pond or can you use a 40 gal fish tank? plz help

I did it once. I had them in a thirty gallon with some rocks for decor. I caught them from a lake near my house and put them in the tank. After about a mounth I noticed spawning behavior and came home one day to find eggs all over the tank. They hatched after about a week. I never intended to breed them, it just happened.

is there a way to sex them? and also whats the water temp have to b

i don't think a 20gal would work. i don't think that they are life time partner. i would think the temp has to emulate the same as the out side temp, that copies the spring time conditions. so I'll say, get a 500gal pond and copy the same environment as the lake, river, pond that they came out of. and get 15 sun fish, and hope for the best.

Settle down there Sparky.

Males have more intense colour, a more robust body shape and are more impressive overall. Females are more rounded in the belly and don't have as sloping of a forehead.

Males will typically kill the female when he's done with her unless she can get away. Keep in mind, that in order to properly keep these you'll need a decent size tank. 75-gallon would be minimum. They get a fair size too dude. 7-10 inches!

I had a couple of these and they were pretty aggressive with each other and other fish. Ended up they all performed a cult act at night and all jumped out. I found them all dried up inches from each other on the floor. Weird.

Remember that once you keep native fish in the aquarium they can never be put back into the wild. You can introduce foreign parasites, bacteria, and reek havoc on the ecosystem.
