If your fish can handle them(or just feed them at the preferred size of growth) start breeding convicts. If you could get a hold of maybe a 29 gal or something and put a flower pot in there and plop a pair in there you should have no problem getting them to breed. Many people have had them breed even when they weren't trying to breed them.

new to the whole fish scene what exactly are convicts

They are a south american cichlid. Look up on google pink convict and black convict( 2 diffrent color varieties that can interbreed) the diffrence between the male and the female is the female will have orange on their belly and the male has no orange and longer fins. Dont be sad if they eat their babies the first few batches of young, eventually they will care for their young for the long term. Good luck and I hope I helped :)

helped alot so waht all should i put into the tank plant wise and do i need a heater? im going to use a 10 gal. also waht do i feed them? also do i need the 2 diff colored ones? and how long will it take for them to produce the babies

it should be a heated tank for guppies are tropical, you will want some flaoting plants for the babies to hide in when they are born and they dont have to be diffrent colored.

i breed guppies for feeders in a 10 gallon,
filter is a 30 gallon whisper
as many fluffy plants and floating plants as you can get to grow in the tank
5-6 large mature females
2 males
you should get 60-80 fry per female each month, leaving them in the tank takes about 2 months to get about 1/2 inch
over feed them and have snails that are safe with the plants for clean up crew, do small water changes weekly(bout 2-3 gallons), and a large vacuum once a month.
