So I am trying to pair my jack dempseys but my female is the dominant fish in the tank and I believe this is why they are not mating. I have removed the female in hopes of her losing dominance (I put her with my fully mature Jag (also female)), however my male jack is still not the most dominant fish in the tank (I have him with a GT thats smaller than him and a peacock bass about his size). Him and the GT are about codominant I would say. I have been trying to feed him well to get him to grow larger, but my female jack being dominant has seen the most growth. Any other thoughts.

How many tanks you have? The fastest way for dempseys to breed will be for them be in a tank alone and being dominant and the male being dominant. Since males must be the agressor for them to mate. I would divide the other fish in a smaller portion of the tank. Then net the female jd and stunt her growth to allow the male to out grow her. Then put them together with one main cave black worms and huge a water change. Then let them be for a couple of weeks bam they breed.

yeah, whatever you do, do NOT do this... purposely stunting your animals' growth is never a good idea... That's perhaps the worst advice I could have thought of... The only way I can think of making the male more aggressive, is to put him into a tank with a bunch of smaller fish that he can just push around and maybe even kill, and then after a while add the female...

Yea thats a awesome idea kill fish.. Lol you sound so intelligent. The fish growth wont be stunted it will just be slowed and it will give it enough time for the male to catch up with her. Plus his dominance will be even stronger since he is established in the tank and has some ownership or territory to protect. Or kill some of your stock....

Why not just get a larger male?
A trade in, From a LFS.
Or just introduce another male,
To get the testosterone moving.
Heck, A mirror might even work.
