So the eggs turned brown yesterday, but today they were gone and I see no fry, I only have sponge filters and the two jacks are the only fish. Could the parents have eaten them? Or is it possible the male never fertilized them?
The mother might have hid them after hatching and you just haven't seen them. That's the optimistic approach. Otherwise, they might have eaten them. If they turned brown then it means they were fertilized. I think only white eggs show that they haven't been fertilized.
