Breeding jack dempseys, female too dominant. Tips?

So the eggs turned brown yesterday, but today they were gone and I see no fry, I only have sponge filters and the two jacks are the only fish. Could the parents have eaten them? Or is it possible the male never fertilized them?
I had a mirror, had dither fish, did a water change, turned the temp up, fed them a "shrimp, tilapia, cichlid gold formula" I made. As well as putting my female with a more dominant fish to allow her to lose some dominance.
The mother might have hid them after hatching and you just haven't seen them. That's the optimistic approach. Otherwise, they might have eaten them. If they turned brown then it means they were fertilized. I think only white eggs show that they haven't been fertilized.
Thanks, its the first batch and honestly im not sure what to do with them, I'll keep an eye out but either way it doesn't matter yet, but was kinda hoping for some success and gaining experience in breeding
Often i find the parents eat their first batch or so.. soo it might take some pacience but they'll get it eventually. also did you say the dither fish are in the same tank? it could be that one of them got a good snack after lights out..
It's been a lil while,m but I found the babies, the mom moved them in a well hidden spot. Only the parents and the babies are in the tank. So far they seem to be doing well. They're still very tiny though.
you can try to divide the tank with the white egg crate (you can get at home depot) and cut a hole just big enough for the smaller fish to go in to get away once they are ready to breed thell come out do there thing and go back on there side so it dosnt get the snot kicked out of it after awile they should except each othere if not get a larger tank for just the pair and put alot of hiding spots or cut a bigger hole good luck
