i would suggest getting a small group and letting them pair as this would allow them to choose themselves and for the strongest bond but like nc_nutcase said this would allow possiblity for sibling to pair so i would try to get them from different stores, go to one store and look for the best looking ones that have no blue on the lower half of their gill plate, and then go to other store and look for ones with blue all over their gill plate...

I like Sarah's advice... although I would also ask the stores who their supplier is. It is common for several stores int he same town to use the same supplier. If both stores use the same supplier ther is no value of getting them from two different stores...

Thought that I ought to throw in my experience for anyone wanting to breed them. I got my pair a few months apart from the same store. I didn't realize that they would breed, didn't even realize that they were different sexes. I put them in a 55 gal (48 long not sure of the other dimensions) with some africans, I know that that is frowned upon but they get along pretty well. One is currently 4-5" and the other is 3-4" and all of a sudden they took over the main pvc pipe and the little rock in front of it, got mean, and a few days later there were eggs. Maybe I just got lucky. Now I have to completely redo the tank and divide off the africans(the JDs aren't playing too nice now), and add some sand back (was barebottom).

Temp stays right at 80 and 0 ammonia at all times. pH is somewhere close to 7.2. They are all very healthy and well fed. I think that the plentiful feeding and the varied diet that I provide helped get them to breed, on accident :P.
