I recently found a L600 trio (2f and 1m) that according to the previous owner they have spawned before. He said they are wild caught. Anyways I have read some articles online or planet catfish about their breeding - good information. Last weekend i was able to get L114, i think male that I added to my L600 tank. I figured it would be better chance of pairing. No fighting so far.

Anybody here ever tried or have successfully breed them? Anybody in the US? The articles was done in Europe and Asia.

Any info would be great.. foods (what kind), water temp, etc etc etc..

Thanks

I'm going to try to breed mines when I move them into a larger tank. I have a large group of L114's that is 8"+. I think I have some males and females. They should be mature or close to it. I read whatever articles that is on the Internet already. Breeding is not a priority. I just think they are some cool looking fishes.

same here, my 2 females (L600) are about 10 to 12 inches, very fat and the male(l600) is about 7, the other one is L114. Let me know if you get lucky and what do you feed yours? mine like large carnivore pellet, shrimp too but really dont like veggies.

I'm in the West Coast. Mines will eat anything including veggie. The veggie will make a big mess. I have a group of Honduran Red Points in the tank to clean up but it does not work too well. Sometimes I give them a whole tilapia fillet and they go at it like savages. I feed them mainly sinking pellets. Currently they are in a 100 gallon with a fluval filter. I'm planning on moving them into a 175 gallon with a wet / dry system. That will make a big difference. I have 7 to 8 of them in my large group and another smaller group with nice red fins in a smaller tank. The smaller ones was hand picked for the color from the local wholesaler. Your fishes are very nice. Also my friend have a L600 that I can get once I get them to start breeding. Good Luck.

L600 and L114 are two different species and should not be cross bred.

L600, LDA073 - Rupununi River basin in Guyana and Upper Rio Branco in the Amazon drainage.
L114, LDA007 - The majority of specimens that enter the aquarium trade originate from the Rio Demini in the Rio Negro drainage, Brazil.

However there are individuals that insist that they are the same specie but clearly they are not.
Lovely pleco nevertheless.

More pictures will be appreciated to see the L600 and L114 differences.

I had a trio of L-600 in a 100 gallon. I kept them with a bn and some filament barbs. I fed then NLS exclusively for 3 years as they would not touch veggies. No luck with breeding my male 10 inches killed the 8 inch female one nite. He then started biting the other female. I ended up giving female to my neice then gave the L600 away to a member on this site. Don't get me wrong very cool plecos and mine never hid. I just changed my tanks around and went with differant fish.

Thats cool, if you have pics of your old trio, id like to see it. I do have alot of hidding space on mine but they still have territorial issues when the lights are out. I been feeding them mainly hikari carnivore, like you said they dont touch veggies.
