:screwy:So i just got into the breeding and i have a 29 gallon with 10 convict cichlids... 4 male and 6 females... but they haven't bred yet... what am i doing wrong?? from what i heard it doesn't take long at all..i know the biggest MALE is ready because he keeps digging PITS... please give me some info!! thanks:screwy:

wait... don't worry... they will breed.

I can't really give you much more advice than that, I have never shot for any specific water parameters to breed convicts, I'm convinced they would breed in chicken broth.

Just keep an eye out, a couple should appear and make sure you remove the rest once you get a pair to ensure breeding success.

make sure the convicts are able to defend their breeding place. 10 convicts is a lot in a 30 gallon. dont worry about them not breeding. they want to breed more than anything but if theres too many it might be hard for them resulting in hesitation to breed.

Hope you have more than just a 29 gallon tank, ive got two convicts in my 125 gallon, a breeding pair, and they are having 50-100 babies every 40 days

the local stores do not want the babies so i think im going to seperate the breeding pair, i dont know what else to do, im pretty sure most of the other cichlids in the tank are female, so i may leave the male convict in the tank, who knows what could happen ;)

once the eggs they just laid are about 3 weeks old im going to seperate them, they are VERY mean to the other fish when protecting their babies.

get some large predatory fish!!!!!!

use the fry for feeding

29 is fine for 10. how are the colors of the females? if they are not bright then they are not ready to breed. male might be ready but female is not. they will get there. if not let me know cause i have a couple of breeding pairs with tons of babies that i dont mind giving away to someone who would like to see them breed
