Tangled up in Cichlids is definently the way to go. Him or Fishfarm could help you out. I am going to go against the rest when concerning a divider. I have never had good luck wth them and honestly hate the way they look. I use Deca Pots. With this set up if I remove fry I can get them to breed once a month on que.
The best set up is 1 large pot for to be used as a cave that the pair can both fit in, and atleast 2 other smaller pots that only the female can fit in. This keeps agression down as any time the male gets aggressive the female just slips in one of the pots and waits for him to chill out. I have kept Amphilophus for 10yrs now and have had "ZERO" deaths due to agression. Males seem to remain more relaxed knowing the female can easily get away at any given moment. Also allows them to interact more then a divider and to me looks more natural then a large white egg crate in the middle.
For the pots all you need is to go to Homedepot or Lowes and buy some Decca Pots. The Large one acting as the main cave can be any pot and a fancy one will be fine. However, the smaller ones need to be the cheaper ones so you can knock out the bottoms of them(With a Ballpeen Hammer) and just make sure they are large enough for the female to get in no problem. I don't see this as being a problem as your male is full size and your female at the very most may be half his size unless Jeff Rapps has a monster hidding in his collection. Just have it all in place before the female gets there to ensure her safety.
As for tank size, I would go larger. However the set up worked with me with a 75g bowfront with the pots. Here are some Videos of my Midas(Both old and more current) to show you the setup.
