Breeding pair for 60g Hex tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
present day discus are much hardier than the past. places like petco sell them now. well at least here in nyc. just don't get any overly sensitive varieties or any wild caught.

if you get discus, get them from a breeder/supplier, not your chain stores.... i would do a pair of angels, pair of bristlenose plecos and a group of corys with one big schooling type or two small schooling types

The problem with catfish and breeding cichlids is that even if the cat stays away most pairs want to kill it.bigger tank maybe different

I have a pair is Sajica right now very interesting little cichlids, so far not as easy to spawn as I thought they would be. In two batches of eggs so far none have hatched, the male has gotten very rough since the last failed spawn and I had to put a divider in. It's been a challenge so far but like I said they are very beautiful and great little cichlids will be even more rewarding once I get a successful spawn maybe try a group 1m- 2/3f

The op can do whatever he wishes, but imo that is not enough length for them to get away from each other if need be. People see 60gals and think oh yeah thats pretty good size, but a standard 60 gal is a whole different ball of wax than a 60 hex. If my male JD was being aggressive to my female JD, I'd much prefer four feet of rockwork/hiding places & visual breaks between them versus less than 3 feet. But then 4 feet is sort of my rule of thumb for any particularly pugnacious medium size cichlid species, imo larger cichlids like Midas & Synspila require a minimum of 6 feet, preferably 8 feet. The way I figure tank space, again this is just my personal opinion, the hex in question is only suitable for smaller, gentler species. Preferably 5 inches or smaller. If it were mine, I'd probably put Apisto's & live plants in it.
