Breeding Pair of Cubans

They do look like 2 males only because the female is not in breeding dress. I have seen it vary depending on the variant but typically females will take on a bold black coloration. For example I have a pair in my 125 and the female always shows the bold black coloration when she is with the male. When they were separated for a week she returned to the typical cuban coloring. On a side not when my male was fighting my midas he would take on a whitish coloration. My pair gets along great and there is no violence between the two(except for one instance). They just don't seem too serious about trying to spawn. But I am ok with that I want them to put on some more size before they start spawning.
But you defiantly cannot add anything else with them except for fast moving target fish. These guys are ferocious.

interesting, ive kept many single females and they always showed the typical fem dress. I have never seen females even as juvies show so much of a spotted pattern like males. our LFS has them in now and you can even easily spot the females. Like I said though I knew that in the wild they were very variable. I also know that Dan at COA very much knows what he doing.
TheTankMates Your finei trust what you guys say too and from what i am seeing it might be 2 males the smaller one (that should be the male is hiding all the time) I dont know anymore I am gonna have to wait and see i guess. The Female you guys say should be black in color right???
and isnt it the male is normally bigger then the female ????
My female is 2 inches and my male is 4. The light sand is washing their color but I could tell that i picked a male and female at my LFS and they had them on white sand. Even at such a small size my male is good to her. Yet he would kill any other fish in the tank. I have never seen such a spotty pattern in a female and like I said all the ones I have seen and kept the females were already easy to spot.
My pair behave the same. I posted a pic below to show you the difference. male is larger and looks jagish in color. The female has bold black markings on her and is quite a bit smaller. male is like 4-5" female is 3-4"
