I'm pretty sure that with Convicts, you get a bunch of them and wait for a pair to form, then sell the rest. Or you can buy an already established pair from someone

No need to buy a group. They are easy to sex, females will have orange on the belly. I'd buy a male and two females and see what happens. Should have fry within a month.

I have seen very few instances where sexually mature convicts of the opposite sex fail to breed when housed together. They are--for lack of a better term--just plain horny.

Convicts are the way to go. Much more interesting than guppies.
