So as part of my cichla operation I picked up 2 Mono's. The seller has pictures of eggs, but wasn't sure who they came from. Despite laying about twice a month, they never hatched, He told me he believed they were both females, thus lesbians. (Frankly, he was quite inexperienced.) My question is: will a Mono PB do the mating dance, and lay eggs if there isn't a male present? I believe the answer is different depending on the species.

Please let me know any input you have. Thanks!

Females can/will lay eggs whether a male is present or not sometimes. If you can post better pictures of the anal fins, we could probably tell you if they're m/f. The one on top looks Male.
