Hello, I have purchased these two completely separate around 4 months ago, Bothy times they were sexed. Could you guys please help me determine their sexes. They both have begun to be completely aggressive towards each other and lip lock on occasion. They both are between 9-10'' inchs each
pic #1 is both of them
pic #2 is supposed to be the female
pic #3 is supposed to be the male
thank you

my female when ready to lay her eggs got really aggressive towards all the other fish in the tank, started to develop a kok, and had basically a tube pritude from her anus. She just layed her first batch of eggs yesterday trying to mate her with my Flowerhorn male. Hopefully this will help you in your adventures in breeding.

she had one that was growing but it seemed to of gone down once she layed her eggs this is her just before she had them. Like literally 20 min later I had a ship filled with eggs. the spots are the glass not her btw

wow! That is a good looking female, so now im wondering if both males and females the lump on their head. Both of mine do, Im wondering if my female is just larger and older, and my male is just younger hes at 9'' now but only like 7 months old, Ive raised since a baby. I bought my suspected female at this size.
Thank you for you imput, and showing your beautiful female

anytime. make sure you give them many options to choose from to lay their eggs. I moved my two to the 125 from the 300 to give the fry a chance. I also gave her a place to hide from the male. If your tank doesn't have one try to provide a cave for the girl to hide in. sadly mine took to the ship right away and layed her eggs in there. However my male was to big to fit so I had to tip the ship over to give him a chance. once she does lay eggs you should know within 3-4 days if he got to them. also if you havn't done so look into getting a sponge filter or a sponge to go over the end of your inlet tube for your filter so as to not suck up the babies.

Yes, some females will have large nuchal humps, and some males won't have any. That can be an inaccurate way to sex them. The only way definitive way is to either wait for the female to lay eggs, or get a picture of both of their vents so that we can help with sexing.

Yes, female amphilophus can and do dispaly a nuchal hump. When you see tubes, the female (if any, or both) will have the larger, rounder tube of the two.

To date they have done nothing but fight every other week,
Nothing what so ever in regards to breeding,
Total they have been together for around 4 months now,
Are there ways of sexing without venting?
I am in no way qualified to do so,
Thank You
