Breeding red tail catfish

It would be pretty hard naturally, I know there's a spot on the female that you can press to make the eggs come out, and a spot on the male to make the milt come to fertilize the eggs.

Someone in the past told me they migrate to spawn. Never fact checked it but if it's true that would make it difficult to do in anything except your own private river. With perfect water. And the right temp. And... you get the idea lol.

Also I wouldnt put it past the Asians to pump their fish with hormones to get them to breed... Thought they were bred mostly for food anyways.

Lots of fish are bred all over the world with ovaprin or other hormones, including the US. I would like to see redtails as a food fish for aquaculture. With their growth rate it would work. Anybody eat one?

Ive always thought it was done through hormone injection really warm water at least five feet deep and muddy, breeding has been done through mud caves, as many babies as you see at the stores and hybrids it seems a couple of people have figured it out
I can only confirm that it has been done (And this is mostly based on the mentions of where the Thais get their fish for their fishing resorts.)

The meat of rtcs are black, that is why no one eats them

lots of people eat rtcs. same with pacus they love them for dinner.
anyways Yes rtc can be breed in tanks, they are injected with hormones. I have also heard of people trying this in 8x2x2 or so and the rtcs going at it resulted in them dead as the tank got broken. so if your going to try it in something small my advice would be a cheap water tank.
