hey guys, i was wondering if it could be possible to create a hybrid of the RTC and a much smaller Pimelodidae species like Pimelodus pictus or Pimelodus blochii to create a smaller cat with the striking coloration we all know and love from the RTCs. i know it is possible to hybridize the RTC and TSN and they look good too, but it would be awesome to cross the with a small species to help limit adult size. any thoughts?

i say this because i, like many others, fall in love every time i see a RTC and cant provide it the home it really needs. if there was a fish with the same or similar striking markings, then maybe lfs around the world wouldnt end up with fish that people couldnt take care of.

i think its a cool theory, but i dont know how the genes would go together possibly giving the fish shorter life spans ex.

it's quicker... cheaper... and way cooler.. to just get a nice big tank/pond and get the real thing... although I love my hybrids... I still preffer the real RTC as you just can't beat their puppy dog behaviours, Necro might disagree with me on that ... but he's hardly ever around to question my opinions anyway :P

the other one would likely become lunch before becoming a bedmate. the only hybrids with red tails i know are with tiger shovelnose and even then i bet is is an artificially created hybrid rather then natural breeding of 2 species

There are actually a number of Hybrids with both TSN and RTC's out there... a simple search on here will provide a list of possibles that will most likley be added to everyones Shopping lists... to bad chirstmas has already passed... there are a few I forgot to ask Santa for

I know there is a RTCxParoon(P.Sanitwongsai) hybrid although I've only seen a juvi from someone here who had a thread or post of it.
So maybe a cross with P.myanmar 23cm; P.mahakamensis 18.2cm; P.macronema 30cm? But I'm not a geneticist, just throwing around wild ideas.

Heres necrocanis' marblexRTC :http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?61968-hybrid-catfish/page13

Also according to necro he has kept a tsn x p. blochii hybrid, and I think the Pimelodus blochi is much smaller than RTC.
