Breeding: Salvini vs convict vs Firemouth

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Definitely look for something that isn't so common. Convicts and Firemouth are usually very hard to get rid of. Salvini like others said you will likely give some difficulty. If you want to try small to medium, I know my LFS is usually more than willing to buy Blue Rams and Apistos. I'd definitely talk to the owner and see what they'd be interested in. Good luck.

I haven't found HRPs to be particularly aggressive, but when I intend to have something breed, there usually aren't any other species tank mates.
I like to pick up half dozen or more of whatever species I'd like to have spawn (with preferably more females than males), and have them grow out together choosing their own partners.
As in the case with the HRPs, there are 7 in this tank, with no other species.

I agree with talking to LFSs and find out what they are looking for. Find out what they don't have already have good suppliers of. I might recommend raising livebearers, at least my LFSs seem more willing to buy regular shipments of them...

Where did you get yours from? Are they very expensive?

Mine came from another member of my local fish club, I get most of my fish that way. We often trade species within the club, and many people in the club have spawned them, so they are quote common here in the Milwaukee/Chicago area.
