breeding semi-faded RT and Devil

OP i love the Red Devil, how old is the female?

villainboy try putting the slate for the female right next to the divider and set up a maxi jet or powerhead on her side blowing the current to the male.

worked before when i afraid of breeding for 12"+ flowerhorn to smaller females.

You can also try notching the divider so a plate or clay pot bottom can fit under 1/2 and 1/2. Several people have luck putting a door into the divider so they can visit for a few mins every now and then and safley escape if the larger male gets mean. I prefer to provide a spot for the female that the male cannot get to in a pot or jar, when she is used to him and him to her they get along fine. Once breeding is completed and the fry are out my males usually want to spawn more and must be removed to keep the female from getting beaten on.

I have used this type of divider to breed all of my large fish, this male devil will kill any of my females if I put them together, he is a mean SOB, and he was raised in a comm tank up to 7". I always get huge spawns with almost 100% fertilization every time. just make sure the tank is bare with a flat rock next to the divider like mine and the male will do his thing.

The female looked like she was chewing the fry out of the shells like females usually do, but I don't see any fry, so either she ate em or I just can't see them, It would'nt be the first time I thought one of my females ate the eggs/fry and then to see freeswimming fry all over my tank a week later, I guess we'll see, I don't know if she has ever spawned before, this is the first since I have owned her,so she may have not known what to do and eaten the eggs, some times it takes them 2-3 times to get the hang of it.

cool info never thought about the plate half way.
i have a door on most my dividers but im breeding my big beast (over 12 inches) and the female isnt even 6" so im uber nervous lol

thanks

I would be very nervous, I have a 12" female flowerhorn that I have breed my Devil with, I took the family to a movie one evening and when I came home he has some how pushed the divider down and almost killed the female, she had no fins and very few scales left, she pulled through though and has fully recovered.
