Breeding Severum Questions

I have 3 severums 2 male 1 female and the female has seemed to pair up with one of them though they haven't layed eggs they are shivering around each other and chasing other fish away from a rock in the middle of the tank while cleaning it.

Is there a good chance they will lay eggs? Seem like breeding behavior

but the male severum the female has paired with is the worse looking one of the two is it possible i can put her and my good looking male in a 40 breeder and they pair up instead?
 
That's the way it goes they always go for the bad boy.
If they have paired already there isn't much you could do.
You may try removing the lesser male and she may move on to the pretty boy. If she can see the bad boy though she may not pair with the other so I would move him to another tank away from the main tank. If possible
 
would it really matter that much? or could i get some really nice fry from them regaurdless? how much do the genes matter on a scale of one to ten?
 
The only way that it wouldn't matter much is if these two fish we are discussing were from the same spawn and have similar genetics and the difference between them is superficial, and environmental.
If one had been damaged in some way like fin damage that's healed but not genetic.
Then it really doesn't matter because the pretty fish has the same genetics but is pretty because it had a better life not because it's genes are different.
 
The mated pair are actually from the same spawn. I guess i should take the female and my nice male out and put them in there own tank. My brother also has some red severums and he has a female and a nice male should i take his female and put them in the tank so the male has 2 females to choose from? Or Should i put his nice male and my nice male in with the female so she has 2 males two nice males to choose from?
 
I have not messed with severum much I have a red line gold severum but have never tried to pair or breed any.
I know they are mild when it comes to cichlid aggression, you could try the male you wish to breed with the two females, just keep an eye on them if they all get along then great, but be ready to move the odd female once a pair forms.
