has anyone ever tried breeding shrimp (ghost, cherry, etc.) for profit/credit at some lfs? I'm curious about your experiences in breeding and possibly making a profit (or breaking even for some supplies at least). Thanks

I know some people have been able to do it. I think breaking even is about as good as it gets. You are better off selling them yourself or trading them for other things. I am trying to start a breeding colony of cherry shrimp to use a feeders for my loaches, lol. So I guess it would be more profitable and less crazy. The only problem is now I like my shrimp too much and I don't know if I will be able to use them as feeders any more.

I have personally never done it but there is a guy in my local fish club who breeds cherry shrimp and he supplies a ton of them. He sells them for 20 for $10. Hope that helps.

yeah that was more than i've got since i started the thread. thx guys. I am a real DIY person so if i have the ability, i would rather do it than pay for it. isnt that what makes this enjoyable? i think i will breed the shrimp and see how well it goes. maybe i can at least breed enough shrimp to trade for some cool stuff

if theres a market for them in your area then trade/credit is about the best you can hope for when it comes to store..

yeah thats what i figure. i just wanna make a little bit of cash/store credit to help fund the hobbying. the worst thing to happen is i get a shrimp or 2

only way i think you can make some cash is to breed high grade (s, ss, sss) crystal cherry shrimp. look at the prices of them on aquabid. I have a big colony of cherry shrimp but cant get much more than a buck a piece. Very easy to breed though, make great feeders.

whats the cheapest source for said species? nice avatar btw.... you a crab fisherman?

I'd say buy a slightly lower grade like A or S from aquabid and get them going and just remove the below grade shrimp from the colony till its all sss. Nope just happen to pull a big spider crab up trying to catch lobster, something to do when fish arnt biting on the pier.
