Fish can go through the actions and act like a pair, but if they aren't sexually mature it won't matter. Festae in regards to breeding
Compared to lugubris pikes is a joke. If lugubris bred easier there would be more and a lot cheaper.

They might breed for you, who knows. A LOT of sa/ca and even African cichlids don't become sexually mature until at least 18 months if not longer. It's my own belief that most lugubris pikes fall under this category as well.

Its my goal peanutpower to breed pikes, especially lugubris group and I don't care how long it takes. I'm working on a monster tank w/ all pikes someday, but I also would like my pairs to have their own big tanks. I have pairs of atabapo 1s, cinctas, and lents at the moment w/ a trio of atabapo 2s growing out also. I just got 5 Crenicichla wallacei as a side project. My proteous and lugubris reds turn out to be all females, but I still love them.
Just moved cinctas out of quarantine and into a big tank w/ lugubris red female and I can't wait for them to color up. I woke up today to see all 3 schooling w my dorado following me around begging for more food. I'm a crenicichlaholic!
