Seems as though the females simply aren’t ready to be receptive. You could trim the sharp point of the barb before you try again to protect your male

That’s kinda my thoughts also. It’s been a few months they are all 3 about 2.5 years old. Was thinking about trying again this week been over 3 months since they have been together. Maybe I’ll try to clip the barbs not gonna say im excited to try that though
It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was gonna be but still not fun. I got them in the net and I have a long reach pair of side cutters I just cut about 1/2” off. One I couldn’t get the lower barb but it was completely covered by the top barb I did trim so I called it good.
Breeding ray’s isn’t always easy- young males tend to be overly assertive.. and all females are not created equally to receptiveness.. there will be chewing and bruising before it happens. Males need to wear females down some. Lots of breeders have lost females to overzealous males (myself included) . No perfect answer and some males are just worse than others .
They are actually all still together. No pups though..he chased like crazy for a couple weeks and just chilled out idk what’s up. It was nice not having to separate again but I hope they do breed at some point.
