unfortunately i lost both these guys. i left them together and separated the fry after about a week. on one spawn the male ate all the fry and was no longer the same. he didnt move, eat, swim or anything for the next week or so and then died. after the male went, the female did the same thing, started sulking and died.

I'm sorry to hear about your fish.
But with cichlids this is common. It's best to remove the eggs when fertilized & hatch yourself to avoid this or keep the parents with the fry as long as possible. Once you remove the fry it's best to also separate the parents for a while.

thanks for the advice, i didnt have a divider at the time, or an extra tank so separating wasnt really happening. because there are other fish in the tank, the parents would eventually eat the fry so that is why i removed them. in the future i will separate
