once they start they dont stop, when they reach maturity if you have a male and female they are very easy to breed.

Yeah pretty much add water. They are one of the easier Africans to breed. Add a good bit of rock for the females to get a break. I usually have at least 3 or 4 holding at all times

The number depends upon the size of the tank. Brood sizes average around 20.

10 - 12 would be better. That way there is room for the fry to grow.

I would say get 6 and then get another fish to add as well.
