Breeding?

I don't think a high traffic area affects cons... I have 2 small pairs in a 37 gallon divided, ( getting my breeder station setup) for about 4 months. My cat watches and bats at them, my one year old beats on the tank and laughs, I only have a 2 inch pvc elbow in each side and the lites on maybe 4 hours a day... And about 5 batches of fry each so far... Getting near 100 fry each batch now from my small female.

You could always try swapping tanks or a wife swap..., my males got on one side once and I just netted the first I could, not sure if it is the original pairs or not...

I tired the wife swapping but my black male went ham and killed the extra female I had and nearly killed the female from the other pair

I'm gunna try leaving my light off during the day cause I have a habit of turning the light on in the morning and don't turn em off till I get ready for bed.

Now I put some thought to it I think it might be the light. Back when I first started breeding cons I had serveral pairs breed in a 20 high with no light and they did it at least two to three weeks a part.

Light shouldn't affect it.y con pair has laid 3 batches in the last 3 weeks. First 2 batches free swimming and they care for them while eggs in the pot aswell. My lights are constantly changing since they are in my room and my bedroom light and the tank light switch on and off.

Do you leave your light on all day. I get up at the crack of the dawn every morning cause I work the first shift so the light would be on from 3 or 4 in the morning to 10 or 11 at night sometimes even longer.

That's about ten hours. Mine are on about 18 hours. That's a long time. I'm gunna try to regulate the time so it's no more then ten hours. How its suppose to be. Depending if the roads are plowed ill go get a light timer.

Display tank light usually around 8 hrs. I'd keep em on longer in a fry tank since a little algae isn't a bad thing. I had a tough time getting my con pair to spawn this time but I eventually found their trigger. I'm sure you will too since I know you've bred them in the past. It'll be something silly I'm sure.

I put a light timer and got it set for 10 hours. So far they seem to like it. I'm not sure what it is but ill figure it out. The female is getting some nice orange in the fins and tail so I doubt it will be long.
