Very much like the other Vieja and Paratheraps species. I've kept the male with other similar sized cichlids in a community environment but when they paired up they had to be moved to their own 120. I keep them divided until the female starts hanging by the divider and looks ready otherwise he gets too rough with her.
Very underated CA cichlid in my opinion. You have to see them in person to appreciate the different color and the blue and green hues in their fins.

I appreciate them very much. I remember being in High School when Werner and Staikowski (spelling?) took a trip down to Mexico, back in the early/mid 80's and caught this then unknown beauty. Was a 2 part story in Trop. Fish Hobbyist, back like in '84 or so. I had to wait for a second month for the final part of this story, which documented many new, or forgotten species of cichlid from Mexico and CA. I was blown away at how blue the breidhori was, and it's shape, it remided me of a Mbuna from Malawi, kinda. I was already into cichlids, but those articles sealed the deal with me and CA/SA cichlids forever. "Underrated" I think because not too many people know it exists! Many, not all, only know the LFS staple, like Oscars, Red Devils, Green Terrors, yadda yadda. Don't get me wrong, my favorite cichlid is the most common Jack Dempsey! May be common as hell, but if you were looking at it for the first time, it's colors are amazing, really one of the most colorful CA cichlid, whos color covers almost it's entire body. Again this is just my opinion and my personal taste. So back to the Breidhori (? spelling), I feel it is an amzing cichlid, it is not always an item you see being offerd, and like I said George, I want some, please bring em with you when we meet in L.A. for the Blanco hunt!!! They will go in my 215 grow out with 6 nourisatti's that are taking forever to grow, some nicarguenses, and a Jack depsey pair. I will take like 10 pcs to get a pair, so mix up the batches if possible, from both breeding pairs...please!
